The benefits of balancing private life and professional activity can bring improvements on various fronts, such as mental health, physical health, minimizing work-related stress, increasing attention, boosting commitment, and productivity in the workplace.
To offer employees the possibility of a much more efficient rhythm, we present the following solutions:
- Flexibility in work. According to the Labor Code, flexibility in work can mean individualized work schedules – the daily duration of work time is divided into a fixed period and a variable one, occasional work from home or other locations; flexible work schedules; reduced work time programs;
- Extra vacation days. The legal minimum provided in the Labor Code is 20 days annually. Granting additional days is possible in written form.
- Private health insurance programs, gym memberships, or wellness programs organized by the company can contribute to improving the physical and mental health of employees. Employees can subscribe to private health plans and benefit from their deduction, according to the current tax legislation, up to a limit of 400 euros per year, but employers can also cover the costs of insurance premiums or medical subscriptions for their employees; the tax regime applicable to these voluntary insurance and medical services varies depending on who bears the costs. For example, sports subscriptions directly supported by the employer for maintenance, prevention, or therapy – the tax-free and deductible ceiling for these subscriptions is 100 euros annually;
- Reducing the workweek or compressing work: a four-day workweek is an increasingly discussed topic. Large companies outside Romania have decided to test the efficiency of this type of work time allocation, some even reducing the number of hours per week. In some states, there are already discussions at the level of public policies about reducing the weekly working time altogether – in practice, the imposed reduction of working time. A four-day workweek is possible at the regulatory level in Romania as well, there is no provision opposing it.
The implementation of these solutions can be carried out through the internal regulations or the collective labor agreement concluded at the employer’s level.
